A Beautiful Free Spirit

Date: 30 July 2012

Stories by Kayla Fussell

As I have spent my time here in Vorzel I have been challenged my many things in different ways. One of my most enjoyable challenges has been getting to know a young man named Timothy at the orphanage.Timothy is an amazing little man with a smile to melt the heart, charisma to draw attention, energy to challenge caregivers, a laugh to bring joy, curiosity to inspire exploration and hugs and kisses to make you never want to leave his side. He is a child that is hard to figure out. Timothy loves to play with the children around him and to explore new settings. One day I picked him up and he kept pointing off in the distance, so I began to walk around with him. We ended up on the outskirts of the play area where some of the tree branches are just within my reach.

Another year, Another stolen heart

Date: 30 July 2012

Stories by Kayla Fussell

Last year I had the pleasure of traveling to Ukraine to work with Almaz church in partnership with the orphanage in Vorzel. While working with the children daily there was one little man in particular who absolutely stole my heart, David. While back in America I thought of all the children that I spent time with, but none consumed my thoughts like David. I worried that after being away for a year that he would forget me and things would be different this year. They were very different, but in an unexpected way.

Meet with Miroslav

Date: 26 July 2012

It is really hard to know what to share. We have been in Ukraine for 5 days but only at the orphanage for 3 days, yet there is so much I would love to tell those reading Almaz Go.

This is my 4th year in Vorzel and this little, tiny part of the world has a big, huge place in my heart. Mainly because of the faces - the precious faces of the children, the often times stoic yet becoming more and more friendly faces of the orphanage staff, and the heart warming faces of our Ukrainian brothers and sisters in Christ.

At the Vorzel orphanage (Day 1) 21.07.2012

Date: 23 July 2012

Every summer I come to the orphanage where both Ukrainian and Americal team minister to the kids and personnel by our
own forces and attention. Different people of different age and with different goals are coming here. One thing that unites us is our desire to be obidient to God.

In June 2 teams from Almaz

Date: 18 July 2012

In June 2 teams from Almaz (Kiev, Ukraine) and Calvary (Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA) churches have joined together efforts to serve orphans in Vorzel village that is located 35 km away from Kiev. The main reason that united 16 Americans and 8 Ukrainians for 5 days was the desire to reflect love of our heavenly Father to kids and staff of that orphanage.

Orphanage. Chapter 14 – The Kids

Date: 7 February 2012

Today, I’ll tell you about the kids from the Building #3.  This building looks more like a day care center, because it is inhabited by normal healthy kids.

Unfortunately, I again could not gather information about all of the kids here.

Orphanage. Chapter 13 – The Kids

Date: 18 January 2012

I tried to gather info on some kids from the baby and toddler orphanage in Vorzel. Unfortunately, I could not ask about every single one of them.

This is where I will introduce some of the inhabitants of buildings #1 and #5.

In the previous chapters of my story I showed the work done at the orphanage.  Now, it’s time to show those, for whose sake we did it all.

In later posts I’ll try to introduce them one by one.  But for now, some quick pix without comment.

Orphanage. Chapter 10 – Sensory Room

Date: 3 January 2012

It’s time to tell you about where I worked.

On the first day, when we looked at the site choosing who would work where, it turned out that I had no choice to make.  I was told at once that I must be working on the sensory room.

The Orphanage. Part 8 – The Bathroom

Date: 18 December 2011

Building toilets is one of the most popular things we do at orphanages. It is not a secret that comfort in this place is of significant importance to people, especially women, who make up the staff of the orphanage.

We have already recreated a couple of toilets in other orphanage buildings. The time came for the building №1.
